ANNEXES
The below „Quality Evaluation Instruction“ shall form an inseparable part of this sales warranty.
QUALITY EVALUATION INSTRUCTION
This instruction has been prepared in order to evaluate the quality of production and appearance of industrially manufactured and assembled wood-derived furniture.
The instruction is intended for use in case of reclamations concerning the quality of products to determine the required appearance of end products and the extent of allowed deviations in production.
This instruction does not cover the quality requirements for source materials which have already been specified in material quality certificates.
This instruction is based on the following standards: SFS 2457 (“Furniture, wood, quality requirements” and SFS 4590 (“Industrial painting, quality levels, structural furniture industry”) EVS-EN 1153:1998 ,EVS-EN 1116:1998.
1. INSPECTION OF FURNITURE PROCUREMENT AND NOTIFICATION OF DEFICIENCIES
2. LIABILITY FOR PROCUREMENT DEFECTS AND DEFICIENCIES
3. INSPECTION OF FURNITURE SURFACES
The inspection of furniture surfaces is based on the general appearance of surfaces and the potential defects accompanying the assembly of surfaces. The inspection of surfaces takes into account the general impression of the product and the qualities characteristic to the relevant surfaces and also single disturbing defects.
The inspection of surfaces is generally performed at the distance of 1 m and in natural light conditions. The general principle upon the inspection of surfaces is that furniture details belonging into the same set must form an integral whole in their appearance. Colour differences within a set are precluded. Differences in tone caused by the natural characteristics of solid wood are allowed, see clause 6. In case of patterned surfaces, a corresponding sample door or furniture shall be used as a reference surface.
4. CABINET CASES AND SHELVES
Surfaces must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded. The edge bands must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded. The joint of the edge band and surface must be integral and tight without fractures.
Slight processing and surface defects are allowed on cabinet surfaces that remain hidden after assembly. Small scratches and dents are accepted on the insides of cabinets.
5. LAMINATED AND FOILED DOORS
Surfaces must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded.
Small processing defects, which may be corrected, are allowed on the inside of doors covered with melamine paper but not more than 1 defect per/500 mm.
The edge bands must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded. The joint of the edge band and surface must be integral and tight without fractures.
6. LACQUERED WOODEN DOORS
6.1 Solid wood doors
The facade surfaces of doors must be undamaged and in similar colour. Deviations in colour and pattern resulting from the special character of wood species are allowed, including the medullary rays characteristic to beech and oak. Single doors in different tones that damage the overall impression shall still be replaced. The natural tone of sapwood characteristic to pine is allowed. The sample doors and kitchens in the sales salon shall be used as the reference surface for inspecting the pattern and tone of doors.
Small repaired cracks on the backs and edges of doors, differences in tone, dents and reflections that do not damage the general impression are allowed. Max. 10 mm whole knot or a correction per square metre of product surface or per 1 product is allowed on the backs or edges. Milling defects or visible joints are not allowed on door facades or backs.
The knack in the horizontal and vertical door rail joints caused by natural changes in the air humidity is allowed, see drawing 1.
6.2 Veneered doors
The facade surfaces of doors must be undamaged and in similar colour. Deviations in colour and pattern resulting from the special character of wood species are allowed, including the medullary rays characteristic to beech and oak. Single doors in different tones that damage the overall impression shall still be replaced. The natural tone of sapwood characteristic to pine is allowed. The sample doors and kitchens in the sales salon shall be used as the reference surface for inspecting the pattern and tone of doors.
No corrections on the facade surfaces are allowed.
Slight tone differences, dents and reflections, also a few knots up to 5 mm and corrections on the backs and edges of doors that do not damage the general impression, are allowed. These must however harmonise with the facade tone.
Veneer must not be continued along the grain. Veneer must be firmly attached to the substrate. The veneer seam must be integral. The substrate must not be visible through the veneer.
6.3 Lacquer quality
On the door facades:
• the lacquer must cover all surfaces intended therefor,
• the surfaces must be smooth according the characteristics of wood and without assembly defects,
• processing traces are precluded,
• grooves and unevenness are only allowed in corner joints,
• single small nubs are allowed,
• nubs, dents, “orange peel”-effect, flowing, lacquer corrections, shine differences, cracks and peels in lacquer surfaces are not allowed.
On the backs and edges of doors:
• the lacquer must cover all surfaces intender therefor,
• the surfaces must be without assembly faults according the characteristics of wood,
• processing traces may be slightly visible,
• grooves and unevenness are allowed in corner joints and to a few extent on the main surfaces,
• single small nubs, dents, slight flowing and lacquer corrections and shine unevenness are allowed,
• cracks and peels in lacquer surfaces are not allowed.
Attention! Moist storage conditions may cause swelling, tone differences and cracks for which the manufacturer is not liable for.
7. PAINTED DOORS
On door facades:
• the paint must cover all the surfaces intended therefor,
• the surfaces must be smooth and belong together,
• splices, joints, corrections and processing traces, also slight dents that do not damage the general impression, are allowed,
• unevenness is only allowed in joints,
• single small nubs are allowed,
• nubs, dents, “orange peel”-effect, flowing, paint corrections, shine differences, cracks and peels in paint surfaces are not allowed.
On the backs and edges of doors:
• the paint must cover all the surfaces intended therefor,
• the surfaces must be smooth and belong together,
• substrate unevenness, pattern, splices, joints, corrections and processing traces, also small dents are allowed,
• unevenness in joints and to a few extent on the main surface is allowed,
• single small nubs, slight flowing of paint and small corrections are allowed,
• nubs, dents, shine differences, cracks and peels in paint surface are not allowed.
Slight unevenness is allowed on the treated surfaces of MDF-doors (grooves and millings) in comparison with the facade.
Attention! Moist storage conditions may cause swelling, tone differences and cracks for which the manufacturer is not liable for.
8. OILED AND WAXED SURFACES
Oiling and waxing of surfaces is a generally applicable and acceptable option of surface cover. The main requirement is uniform absorption of the oil or wax in the wood surface.
9. WORKTOPS
9.1 Laminate worktops
Surfaces must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded. The edge bands must be integral and firmly attached to the substrate. The transparency of substrate through the surface is precluded. The joint of the edge band and surface must be wholesome and tight without fractures.
9.2 Solid wood worktops
Fractures in the worktop end strips are not allowed. In case of solid wood worktops one must take into account the possibility that wood reacts to the changes in relative humidity which may cause certain fractures in glued joints.
9.3 Processing of openings made in worktops
Upon the assembly of worktops it must be ensured that the edges of built-in sinks and other openings are treated with silicone so that moisture would not penetrate inside the worktop.
9.4 The factory warranty does not cover the following defects:
• yellow or yellow-brownish spots occurring on worktops due to the long-term effect of hot (over 100°C) objects,
• changes in geometrical measurements of worktops (thickening) in edge bands, joints or openings connected with the long-term penetration of fluid to PLP.
The materials used in kitchens are moisture-proof not water-proof i.e regardless of the use of standard moisture barriers and silicones, the factory or the installers are unable to ensure complete resistance to water.
The same conditions apply to connections: worktop – stove and worktop – sink.
10. PROCESSING ACCURACY
10.1 Measurements
The allowed deviations in the measurements of cabinet cases and worktops (width, depth and height) have been specified in the Estonian Standard EVS-EN 1116:1998.
10. 2 Rectangularity of doors and worktops
The rectangularity error in doors and worktops must not be more than 1 mm per product. Rectangularity is measured with an angle bar from the corners of opposite sides. The measuring point must be 500 mm from an angle or at the max. possible distance if the detail width is less than 500 mm.
10.3 Straightness of doors and worktops
On doors with height below 1200 mm and on worktops with width below 1200 mm, the processing error upon delivery of goods may be max. 2 mm and max. 3 mm upon warranty inspection. In case of doors with height over 1200 mm and in case of worktops with width over 1200 mm, the processing error upon delivery of goods may be max. 3 mm and max. 4 mm upon warranty inspection.
The bending of surfaces shall be measured with the lines drawn from the extremities of the surface. The biggest measured deviation becomes decisive. Plane curve is measured by pressing the three angles of a surface against the plane. Deviation of the fourth angle from the surface becomes decisive.
10.4 Unevenness of doors and worktops
The unevenness of doors and worktops may be max 0.5 mm/200 mm upon the delivery of goods and warranty inspection. The evenness of a surface shall be determined with a 200 mm straight ruler by placing it onto the surface in random directions and measuring the size of the gap.
11. RELIABILITY OF FITTINGS
The fittings used in furniture i.e hinges, drawer and basket rollers must be in good condition during the procurement.
12. INSTALLATION OF FURNITURE
The furniture must be installed according to the instructions of the manufacturer. Upon the assembly of worktops and sinks it must be ensured that their contact surfaces with the wall material have been sealed with waterproof material such as silicone etc. It is also necessary to ensure the sealing of built-in sinks and sink mixers to preclude the penetration of moisture in the worktop. All the openings in the worktop are also processed with moisture-proof material.
13. MOUNTING OF KITCHEN APPLIANCES INTO FURNITURE
Upon the installation of various appliances e.g refrigerators, the circulation of sufficient amount of air around the appliance must be ensured. All kitchen appliances shall be installed according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
14. CLEANING OF FURNITURE
Depending on the intensity of use, it is advised to clean the furniture at certain intervals with a soft cotton cloth dampened in non-abrasive and non-acidic detergent. Attention! Excessive spilling may cause the swelling of materials. Check the suitability of cleaning agent on a surface that is not visible.
